The Colonial has many variations, the French, English, Dutch, Spanish and German all built Colonials and had their own twist on the home, making it one of the most recognizable architectural styles in the United States. The Cape Cod is also an offshoot of the colonial style. The hallmarks of colonial homes are a symmetrical square shape, a centered front door, a medium pitched roof and windows that line up on their respective floors.
