Laurelhurst is one of Portland’s older, established communities. This SE Portland neighborhood was originally farmland but it was sold in 1909 for development – with the famed Olmstead Brothers Firm hired as architects. Since this time Laurelhurst has continued to grow into one of Portland’s most beautiful neighborhoods. The streets are lined with mature trees and many historic homes are set behind them. Home styles here vary greatly from charming bungalows to large brick homes on equally expansive lots.
Laurelhurst is also home to the sprawling Laurelhurst Park, a great in-city park for old and young alike. The park contains a duck pond, trails and bike paths, an off-leash dog area, and numerous picnic areas. It is common to see the park filled during the summer months with parties, picnicking families, dogs, and plenty of locals. There is always plenty to do and see in the Laurelhurst neighborhood and it’s just a short distance from popular Belmont Street as well as the Hawthorne neighborhood.
