Places to Know – South Portland aka Johns Landing

Minutes from downtown is a small neighborhood, know as the Corbett-Lair neighborhood, Johns Landing, or South Portland. It stretches along the waterfront, from Macadam Ave along the water front, up to Barbur Blvd.  The neighborhood has newer developments along the South Waterfront, and cozy houses along the hillside. No matter what you call it, here are a few places you should know when in the area:

EAT:

REO’S RIBS
What: Southern Style Barbecue served by Snoop Doggs Uncle.
Why: Drive past, and after one whiff, you’ll know why.
When: As Reo says, When smokin’ we’re open!
Where: 6141 SW MACADAM, PORTLAND

MIND BODY SPIRIT:
AMRITA YOGA STUDIO
What: A yoga studio/mind and body sanctuary.
Why: The teachers here stretch you to a whole new level.  Offering classes, teacher trainings, and events to bring together the yoga community.
When: Check their website for their class schedule.

HANG:
ROSS ISLAND GROCERY
What: A perfect neighborhood cafe/store.
Why: Great sandwiches, a few beers on tap, and outdoor seating to chat with your neighbors.
When: Go after work for a beer, or in the morning for a fresh brewed coffee.

OUT and ABOUT:
PORTLAND AERIAL TRAM
What: The tram that takes passengers from the South Waterfront to OHSU.
Why: Its only 4 dollars, and you get a beautiful view of Portland!
When: 5:30am – 9:30pm
Where: 3303 SW Bond St. Portland OR

SHOP:

GORGE PERFORMANCE
What: A surf/snow/outdoor sports shop
Why: They carry everything. From snowboards to wetsuits and stand up paddle boards, and all the equipment to go with it.  Since the staff knows and uses the products, the customer service is outstanding.
When: Monday thru Friday from 10am-8pm. Saturday from 10am-7pm
